The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory to members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana embarking on pilgrimage to Senegal, urging them to exercise heightened caution in making their travel arrangements.
In a statement dated Friday, August 21, the Ministry said that while Senegal remains safe for travellers, concerns have arisen regarding security situations along certain road corridors leading to Dakar, particularly for persons undertaking long-distance journeys by road.
“Travellers are urged to take these security considerations into account when planning their journeys,” the statement said.
In view of these concerns, the Ministry strongly advised prospective travellers and pilgrims to consider air travel as the most preferred, safe, and secure means of transportation.
Those already making arrangements to travel by road have been urged to reconsider such plans and opt for air travel instead.
The Ministry called on the Tijjaniya Muslim pilgrims and other prospective travellers to adhere to the advisory and prioritise their personal safety and security, reiterating its unwavering commitment to the welfare, safety, and protection of Ghanaian nationals.
It added that it will continue to monitor the situation closely with relevant international partners.
