Ghanaian players in Ethiopia have extended a plea to the government of Ghana to help secure their return back home, following the cancellation of the league in the East African country.
The coronavirus has brought football in several countries to a halt, including Ethiopia’s top flight.
The situation has caused a number of the Ghanaian contingent plying their trade there to make their case to Ghana’s government in a video.
In the video released by one of the players on Tuesday, July 23, former Black Stars defender Lee Addy and ex-Medeama and Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe solicited for government to come to their aid.
“We are begging government. The league here has been canceled and the teams have sorted us out. We have used up all the money we have on us since the league was canceled in March,” said Muntari Tagoe.
“Rent and food have taken up all the money we have. Our rent also expires on Monday, June 30. We are not asking for financial help. We have all bought flight tickets.
“We are only begging the government to come for us because we will not have anywhere to sleep here after Monday. If out resident and work permits expire, that will attract other fees,” he added.
The Ethiopian league has been canceled as part of the East African country’s measures to contain the spread of the novel Covid-19.
