3FM in collaboration with victims of medical negligence will on August 21 stage a peaceful walk aimed at creating awareness and attracting attention to the canker of medical negligence.

The station has for the past two months been running a campaign on its morning show, 3FM SUNRISE to mitigate and ultimately eliminate the incidents of medical negligence in health facilities.

Several victims have so far shared their experiences after losing loved ones due to what described as” negligence by some medical officers”.

While the station condemns the increasing cases of medical negligence; it also celebrates and award medical officers who go all out to give care to their patients.

Leading the walk is Mohammed Mustapha, the husband of the late Akua Nyarko Osei Bonsu who died at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in the latter part of 2019 through a suspected case of medical negligence.

Other Non-Governmental Organisations including the Advocacy for Medical Malpractice Victims are also participating in the peaceful walk, which will see them present a petition to the Medical and Dental Council.

The walk will commence from the  Legon Police station at 10am to the Ministry of Health and then to the  Medical and Dental Council to submit a petition.

The group has served notice to the police regarding the intended walk.

Mr. Mustapha, who is the convener of the walk has already served notice to the Ghana Police Service on the intended walk.

“…the painful exit of my wife, a situation I never wish for any person or would be mother, I have decided to be a crusader for the health authorities, government and the citizenry to take steps aimed at minimizing the incidence of medical malpractice as we walk to drum home the fact that our lives as patients also matter,” portions of the letter reads.

The 3FM SUNRISE Medical Negligence Campaign has so far resulted in victims being connected to lawyers to better advise them on how to handle their situations. The campaign, through the support of charity foundation, Speciallady Awareness Campaign presented medical equipment to the 37 Military Hospital.
