The Campaign Team of Independent Parliamentary Candidate for Tarkwa Nsuaem Joy Joycelyn Andoh has accused Municipal Chief Executive Benjamin Kesse of destroying billboards advertising her candidature.
According to the team “on Thursday, August 13, 2020, the self-imposed Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Benjamin Kessie stated on Dynamite FM that as part of the preparations toward the coming of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, all billboards would be removed from the Municipality”.
“True to his words, he instructed some workers of the Municipal Assembly to remove the billboard of Miss Joy Joycely Andoh, aspiring Member of Parliament for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, as independent candidate, mounted at Tamso Estate Junction. However, upon the timely arrival of the campaign team members of Miss Joy Joycelyn Andoh, the workers bolted leaving behind a ladder which they were using to mount the billboard”.
The team stated that after causing the arrest of the perpetrators, they thought that will be the last time such dastardly act will happen, alas they were wrong.
“Acting under the guide of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon Mireku Duker, the MCE again empowered supporters of the MP to deface and destroy the billboard and posters of Madam Joy Joycelyn Andoh, in the early hours of Tuesday August 18, 2020 at Nsuaem hours to the arrival of President Akufo-Addo who was visiting the area to cut sod for construction of a secondary school”.
In an interview with 3news.com, a member of the Campaign Team, Nana Ntisful, indicated that a Good Samaritan who tried to stop “such an illegal and barbaric act was brutally assaulted and stabbed by the enraged youth”.
He stated that the prime suspect who destroyed the billboard of Joy Joycelyn Andoh was arrested by the Nsuaem Police.
“According to our intel, the suspect emphatically mentioned Mr. Benjamin Kessie as the one who contracted him to carry out this illegal act, upon interrogation,” he claimed.
He expressed worry that the MCE could engineer such illegal acts when the assembly itself permitted the Independent Candidate to mount the billboards”.
“I want to state it on record that, all the billboards of Joy Joycelyn Andoh were permitted and duly certified by the Municipal Assembly before they were mounted. We would like to entreat all and sundry to desist from defacing or engaging in any destroying the billboards.”
Another Campaign Team Member, Nana Anobaah, on his part, called on the National Peace Council, traditional authorities, Regional Police Command, CSOs involved elections and all peace-loving constituents to call the MCE and the incumbent MP to order, stressing that “these acts if unchecked could be disruptive to the impending elections”.
Notwithstanding, he insisted that Joy Joycelyn Andoh remains focused, resolute and unperturbed on her campaign on developments and the well-being of the people of Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency.
When 3news.com contacted the MCE Benjamin Kessie, he indicated he was in a private meeting and would respond to the allegations later.
