A 40-year old Engineer, Paul Afotey Quaye, has been confirmed as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Krowor Municipal Assembly.
He swept all the 17 “Yes” votes at the end of the election, which represents 100percent endorsement .
Of all the 17 Assembly members, 11 are elected and six government appointees.
Although, the total number of Assembly members is 18 , one is deceased reducing the number to 17.
Speaking in an interview with Journalists after his swearing in, the new MCE, promised to tackle roads and improve on the sanitation situation in the municipality.
Commenting on his overwhelming endorsement, Ing. Afotey Quaye, who doubles as the Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress in Krowor, interpreted it to mean that, he needs to listen more to the Assembly members.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, who supervised the process and later sworn-in the newly confirmed MCE, expressed her gratitude to the Assembly members for making the exercise a smooth one.
According to her, some Assemblies in other jurisdiction, could not confirm the President’s nominee, because of personal interests tied around the hope that they will eventually get nominated.
The Krowor successful confirmation of the President’s nominee, seem to have caught on with the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly process where the nominee, Abdul Ibrahim Ganiyu, also got 100percent endorsement .
Receiving 16 “ Yes” votes out of the 17 eligible Assembly votes, Ganiyu becomes the second Municipal Chief Executive of the Municipality, since it was created.
Speaking on his vision after his confirmation, Ganiyu, assured the Assembly of making sure decisions that are taken at the Assembly, would be progress-oriented.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, who spoke to Journalists on the outcome of the exercise, implored on other Assemblies, who are yet to confirm their MCE nominees to take a cue from the successes of Krowor, Ayawaso East and Ayawaso North, who have overwhelmingly confirmed their MCEs.
