…But NPP only got GH¢1 million – Abronye

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has launched a scathing verbal attack on former Assin Central MP and presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, labelling him “childish, envious, selfish, greedy, malicious, and unstable.”

According to Abronye, President Nana Akufo-Addo, awarded Mr Agyapong, a lucrative GH¢645 million contract through the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Yet, he only donated a meagre GH¢1 million to the party sometime in December.

Despite this, Abronye, alleged that Mr Agyapong, had accused the Akufo-Addo government of neglecting party supporters, while remaining silent about the personal gains he had received.

He also cited the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) as another institution from which Mr Agyapong, benefited through what he described as “juicy contracts.”

In a blistering tirade, Abronye described Mr Agyapong as, “evil,” claiming he exhibited “wizardry, madness, buffoonery and envy.” He even threatened to “smash his mouth,” “pull out the various metals in his mouth,” and “rearrange his dental formula.”

Tensions between the two figures are not new. They previously clashed during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour” in the Bono Region, after Abronye criticised Agyapong in a speech to supporters — a move that provoked a sharp rebuttal from the former presidential hopeful.

The two clashed during the opposition party’s ongoing post-election thank-you tour in Berekum, where they exchanged insults in public. Although the encounter ended with what appeared to be a truce, Abronye launched another attack on Wontumi Radio on Friday, May 2, describing Mr. Agyapong, the former presidential hopeful, as “a devil” and “ungrateful.”

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV over the weekend, Abronye, criticised Mr Agyapong for what he termed a pattern of “selfishness and disrespect” within the party.

He accused the outspoken politician of constantly boasting about his contributions to the NPP, while failing to acknowledge the benefits he has enjoyed.

“Ken Agyapong always wants to act like a hero, bragging about how much he has done for the party. But has he ever told anyone what he has gained in return? His behaviour is a reflection of a greedy and self-serving man who believes the party owes him everything,” Abronye stated.

He also warned NPP Members of Parliament sternly, declaring his intention to establish what he called “Poorest People’s Associations” in every constituency. This initiative, he said, aims to give a voice to grassroots supporters who are often overlooked.

“The poor are the backbone of this party; they vote, they build, and they believe. If any MP dares to side with the rich against them, they will regret it. I will go to their constituency and expose them,” he warned.

Abronye, further condemned Kennedy Agyapong’s alleged history of making disparaging remarks about fellow party members.

He accused Agyapong of claiming to “feed” Nana Akomea, mocking former Tema West MP Naa Torshie by saying he “takes care of her” and “has a big pantie,” and calling Yaw Adomako Baafi “a poor man” who depends on him for food.

“His disrespect even extended to the late Chairman Kutin, simply because he supported Dr Bawumia over him,” Abronye said.

He also recalled that Agyapong, referred to Hawa Koomson as “a poor teacher” and claimed he lobbied President Akufo-Addo to secure her ministerial appointment.

“Kennedy always brags about financing the NPP, but has he ever disclosed what he gained in return?” he quizzed. “His behaviour exposes him as greedy, malicious, and dishonourable.”

Reiterating his claims in the Wontumi TV interview on 2nd May 2025, Abronye challenged Mr Agyapong to publicly acknowledge the privileges he has gained from the party.

“We are tired of Kennedy Agyapong. Anytime he has issues with someone, he accuses the person of receiving help from him. He had issues with Naa Torshie and claimed he was taking care of her despite her big panties. He had problems with Yaw Adomako Baafi and called him poor.

“He fought against the late Chairman Kutin simply because Kutin did not support him, but instead backed Bawumia — that is Kennedy Agyapong for you. He also clashed with Hawa Koomson and called her a poor teacher, claiming he lobbied Akufo-Addo to get her a position, as if Akufo-Addo did not even know what he was doing.

“He boasts about financing the party more than anyone else and claims he has bought food for every NPP member,” Abronye lamented.

He concluded by questioning Mr Agyapong’s continued narrative of personal sacrifice for the party, stating:

“Every day he claims he has financed the NPP, but have you ever heard Kennedy Agyapong telling party members about the advantages he has also gained?

“That shows how evil and greedy he is. If you are looking for someone who is selfish, it is Kennedy Agyapong. He is a dishonourable man, yet he claims he has fed everyone in the party.”

Their public feud, which has been simmering for some time, reignited after the verbal exchange during the Bono Region leg of the NPP’s Thank You Tour, when Abronye’s criticism triggered an immediate and fiery response from Agyapong.

Mr Agyapong, meanwhile, has reacted to his friend, saying he has forgiven the NPP Bono Regional Chairman over his recent verbal attacks.

Reacting to the comment in a statement issued last Friday and signed by his personal assistant, Prince Adjei, Mr Agyapong’s camp, condemned the outburst.

It urged the regional chairman to make remarks that promote party unity. “Our commitment is to peace, discipline, and unity within our great party. The thrust is for all to know, we’ve forgiven Mr. Abronye.

“However, as a party that operates within a constitutional democracy, we must always be mindful of the words we use, especially when addressing fellow members. Free speech is a right, but responsibility must accompany it. Unmeasured attacks only weaken the fabric of our unity,” the statement read in part.

The camp of the one-time NPP flagbearer aspirant, further called on party members to refrain from divisive attacks and rather direct their energies at the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Remember that our actual political opponent is not within our party. The NPP must not expend its energy fighting amongst itself. If we genuinely seek to capture power in 2028 and deliver progress and prosperity to the Ghanaian people, then our focus must shift to the NDC, rather than internal skirmishes. “We urge all patriots to uphold unity, decorum, and discipline. Let us collaborate to build a stronger, united NPP for Ghana’s future,” it concluded.
