Cape Coast Sports Stadium[/caption] Government is going to construct five modern sports stadiums to add to the existing ones that can host international matches. Minister of Youth and Sports-designate, Isaac Asiamah told Parliaments Appointment Committee Tuesday that the idea is to ensure that every region has a befitting sports stadium. He mentioned the Upper East, Upper West, Brong Ahafo, Eastern and Volta regions as those to benefit from the modern sports stadiums. Mr. Assiamah was responding to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for Tema East, Titus Glover who was lobbying to get a sports stadium built in Tema. There are stadiums in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Western and Central regions. The minister-designate pointed out that the “commitment” of the government is to build regional stadiums. Stadiums for communities would be looked at later, he noted. However, if there is any community project to put up a stadium, the ministry would be willing to assist, he assured. LOCAL CONTENT IN BLACK STARS Isaac Asiamah said a law would be promulgated to ensure that there is what he calls “local content” in the selection of players for the Black Stars and other national teams. He is confident giving a quota to players playing in the local leagues would revamp the various leagues and keep talents. He promised to meet the Ghana Football Association once he is approved to kick start that policy and legalized it so that whoever takes over the management of the GFA complies with the law.
