The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has said that the Assin South Member of Parliament (MP), Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, never resisted arrest, as the NIB, after engagement with the minority, pulled back and resorted to due process.
The Minority Leader, speaking to Joy FM, indicated that “…the authorities have resorted to due process, and have conveyed a letter to the speaker. So, we await the necessary protocols to be triggered. We, however, petitioned the speaker yesterday”.
He further indicated that “…No, there is nothing like resisting arrest. The authorities themselves have resorted to following due process. In other words, they deescalated, they pulled back yesterday, after we engaged them. And they have resorted to following due process. It is not a matter of resisting arrest. Mr. Ntim Fordjour did not resist arrest, and there is no issue of resisting arrest”.
Afenyo Markin, further highlighted that apart from what is happening, many others in the NPP are facing all forms of persecutions, in the name of accountability.
“We are not against accountability, but due process would always be required”, Afenyo Markin said, reiterating that the right things must be done.
Afenyo Markin calls on Ghanaians to add their voice to those out there, calling on the government to follow due process in all that it wants to do.
The Minority Leader, further called on President Mahama to call what he describes as “hogs in government” to order. “We don’t need them”. He added.
The Minority leader indicated that this vicious political cycle must end, stressing that four years could be far, and could be near.
He again highlighted that the focus should be centred on real issues of governance so the people can benefit from it. “If we get power, we act in such a manner, thinking that…. By bringing down your opponent, that will raise your image or that is what the people want. Another form of let the blood flow. Another form of PNDC?” he furiously queried.
“Let us allow due process,” the Minority Leader reiterated.
