…as Mahama Unleashes Digital Transformation Drive

President John Dramani Mahama has ignited a tech revolution in Ghana with the grand unveiling of the One Million Coders Program (OMCP). This groundbreaking initiative aims to catapult Ghana into the digital spotlight and position it as a powerhouse in the tech world.
In a momentous ceremony at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence, President Mahama heralded the launch as a game-changer in the nation’s journey towards a future brimming with innovation, knowledge, and opportunities for the youth.
“This is not just a program launch, but a bold step towards ushering in a new era of economic prowess. Ghana is ready to take the lead in the digital realm,” declared the visionary President.
The OMCP forms a cornerstone of President Mahama’s ambitious Reset Ghana Agenda, a visionary roadmap focused on nurturing innovation and driving transformative change across the nation.
Central to the program is the ambitious goal of providing digital training to one million Ghanaians, focusing on essential areas such as software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, and networking.
President Mahama put his faith in the vibrant youth of Ghana, highlighting their potential to lead the charge towards a digital future.
“When I sought your mandate to lead once more, I promised a recovery plan rooted in innovation and people-centric policies. Today, we begin dismantling the barriers that hinder our progress—whether social, economic, or digital,” affirmed the President.
The launch of the OMCP aligns Ghana’s aspirations to cultivate a digitally savvy workforce capable of competing on the global stage.
President Mahama stressed the indispensability of coding and digital literacy as pathways to lucrative jobs, entrepreneurship opportunities, and sustained participation in the global digital economy.
Drawing inspiration from successful global models like Estonia, the United Kingdom, Finland, Japan, and the United States, the President outlined plans to tailor the best practices to suit Ghana’s unique context.
The potential for job creation and economic upsurge through the OMCP is immense, with President Mahama underlining the burgeoning global market for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services as a prime opportunity for Ghana to establish itself as a premier hub in Africa.
“Ghana’s strategic advantages, coupled with the digital skills of our youth, position us to attract high-value jobs from around the world, empowering our communities and propelling our economy forward,” exclaimed the President.
Beyond job creation, the OMCP aspires to cultivate a wave of homegrown entrepreneurs equipped with the digital acumen to develop innovative solutions for local challenges in key sectors like agriculture, healthcare, education, and governance.
President Mahama envisioned a future where Ghanaian ingenuity thrives, with startups transforming communities and creating a ripple effect of prosperity across the nation.
Revolutionizing the educational landscape, the program is set to integrate digital literacy and coding into the curricula of universities and technical institutions, spearheaded by a collaborative effort between the Ministries of Education and Communications.
President Mahama emphasized inclusivity as a guiding principle of the OMCP, vowing to ensure equitable access to digital education for all, including rural communities, women, and persons with disabilities.
The first cohort of trainees, comprising a diverse mix of gender and regional representation, has already garnered overwhelming interest, a testament to the hunger for opportunity among the Ghanaian youth.
Looking ahead, President Mahama outlined plans to establish training centers across all metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies, ensuring widespread access to the program.
A robust digital infrastructure forms the bedrock of the initiative, with President Mahama’s administration already making strides in expanding broadband coverage, distributing devices, and developing scalable learning platforms to support the training ecosystem’s growth.
In a resounding call to action, President Mahama urged Ghanaian youth to seize the moment and embrace the program as a springboard into the realms of innovation, entrepreneurship, and global impact.
As the One Million Coders Program takes flight, the government is actively seeking
