Speaker of Parliament Mike Aaron Oquaye on Friday, April 7 had to cajole Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Mahama Ayariga to read a letter of apology written over the bribery allegation against the Appointments Committee.
Mr Ayariga had failed to impress the Speaker on March 30 in the plenary after the five-member ad hoc committee found him guilty of contempt and asked that he apologized.
“With magnanimity in mind, I gave Honourable Ayariga an opportunity to apologise again,” Speaker Oquaye said on Friday.
He indicated that the former minister of state had written to him to render an unqualified apology.
But after being asked by the Speaker to apologise, the Bawku Central MP rather chose to do so extempore.
This got the Speaker to have a clerk serve Mr Ayariga with a copy of the letter to be read to the hearing of all other members.
“He has done so,” the Speaker insisted, accepting the apology in good faith.
The former Dome-Kwabenya MP warned Mr Ayariga not to repeat such behaviour in the future as “you will have yourself to blame”.
A warning was also issued to the co-petitioners while the Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, was constrained from heading to court over the issue.
