Pressure is being mounted on the national executive of the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA) to step aside for an Interim Management Committee (IMC).
Election of new officers initially scheduled for March 31 has been indefinitely postponed due to numerous petitions against the process.
The Election and Arbitration Committee recommended the postponement of the polls.
The current executive body headed by Dr Roland Affail Monney has had to apparently extend its mandate.
Nonetheless, there have been numerous calls for the executives to make way for an IMC until elections are held.
The latest to add to the pressure is Francis Kokutse, a Vice Presidential Candidate.
“This state of affairs of the Association does not speak well of us journalists and to avoid further embarrassment and public ridicule, I would like to associate myself with a previous call for the executive that you lead, to step aside for an Interim Management Committee to be put in place to run the affairs of the Association until fresh election is held,” Mr Kokutse’s letter to Mr Affail-Monney read.
He stated that he would be forced to resort to legal action “to compel the setting up of the IMC”.
“It is my hope that we would not be forced to cross that bridge.”
