The police administration has pledged support for the intention of the family of the late army captain, Maxwell Adam Mahama, to set up a foundation in his honour.
Captain Mahama was lynched under bizarre circumstances on Monday, May 29 at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.
Sympathies have poured in for the family since the sad incidence.
The family has appealed to the state to erect a monument for their fallen son.
On Friday, June 2, Inspector General of Police David Asante-Apeatu disclosed that the late Captain’s father is nursing an intention to set up a foundation in honour of his son.
The foundation is expected to manage incidents like mob justice.
“The Police Administration wishes to pledge our full support for him to achieve his goal,” IGP Asante-Apeatu said, addressing journalists at the police headquarters on Friday.
He pointed out that the police “is prepared to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure that this canker ‘Instant Justice’ is permanently stamped out of our society”.
‘War’
The IGP says the fight against mob justice “is war not only for the security agencies but for all of us, including members of the public”.
“Let us close our ranks and collaborate to deal with this canker once and for all.
“I assure you of the commitment of the police.”
He mentioned stern enforcement of the law, liaising with relevant institutions to intensify public education and taking community policing to higher level as some of the measures to be put in place to help in the fight.
He said the police will “stop at nothing to deal with perpetrators of this phenomenon”.
