…Secret Plea Bargain Bid Exposed

By Gifty Boateng

Ubiquitous Lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea has been caught out after his furious denials of a plea bargain for his corruption-accused client, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, were exposed as FALSE.

The former MP, Atta Akyea, faced the music at Accra High Court on Monday where his client, Adu-Boahene, the ex-spy chief, is staring down the barrel of multi-million-cedi corruption charges.

And after proceedings, Akyea, playing the innocent card, told reporters: “We have not made any overtures. There is nothing on the table for us to plea bargain”

He even huffed that rumours were “misleading” and designed to “tarnish the reputation” of Adu-Boahene, who insists he’s as clean as a whistle.

Reports had already swirled that the judge, Justice John Nyadu Nyante, had told the accused lawyers to HOLD OFF on any plea bargain until the time was right.

Sources close to The New Republic have dropped a BOMBSHELL, saying Atta Akyea’s claims are a “palpable untruth”

Turns out, even though Atta Akyea was front and centre, Adu-Boahene had two other law firms on his payroll, all working on the case.

And guess what? This paper has learned that the crafty Atta Akyea told the other two firms to go BEG the Attorney General, Dominic Ayine, for a plea bargain deal

This secret move happened before Monday’s court drama. Atta Akyea, the clever fox, didn’t go himself because he’d already blabbed to the media that he wouldn’t chat with Dr. Ayine – fearing his words would be “twisted” and “propaganda” would kick off.

He even moaned: “I don’t want to talk to the Attorney General… lest somebody will go and misinterpret it, somebody might go and leak a tape… ‘Atta is hobnobbing with the Attorney General so that he will have some advantages’.”

It seems Adu-Boahene’s legal eagles were simply “testing the waters,” hoping the AG, who’s always banging on about getting stolen cash back instead of jailing culprits, would just roll over.

And it gets juicier! Media reports confirmed that the legal team did approach the court for a plea bargain. The judge, Justice John Nyadu Nyante, even told them to wait until the prosecution had laid all their cards on the table.

Meanwhile, the Deputy AG, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, begged for more time to file their evidence, blaming an “indisposed” investigator. Atta Akyea, surprisingly, didn’t object. The judge gave them until June 2.

This whole plea bargain saga covers the National Signals Bureau case where Adu-Boahene, along with Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited, faces a staggering 11 counts of offences, including Stealing and Money Laundering.

The murky case of Ghana Water Company allegedly paying GHC1.3 MILLION a month to a National Security account – with the cash supposedly diverted to the ex-spy boss – is STILL hanging over his head.

And rumour has it, there are even more alleged crimes being investigated! Looks like Adu-Boahene’s legal nightmare is far from over.
