A senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, has sized up former Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, for his “careless” role in the planting of secret recording device in his former office.
Dr. Ahmed Jinapor is appalled by Alhaji Fuseini’s inability to recollect that he left behind such a sensitive and important device he himself installed after leaving office for well over two years ago.
An audiovisual recording device was detected, secretly planted behind Ghana’s Coat of Arms in the office of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in late June. When the issue became public in July this week, the former minister who is the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central owned up, saying he installed it for his personal security.
Dr. Ahmed Jinapor who was contributing to Saturday’s edition of TV3 New Day, a simulcast on 3FM 92.7, said all security angles should be explored to find out the whole truth.
“If you attach so much importance to that gadget and you are moving from that office and you leave it, it tells of negligence…it smacks of carelessness,” he assessed the former minister.
The lecturer called for regular screening of official apartments as a standard practice to ensure security of state officials.
“The device could have been a bomb,” he lifted the argument.
For a member of the governing New Patriotic Party, Richard Nyamah, he was “shocked” that the device was detected accidentally by another security equipment that was being tested at the minister’s office, which necessitated the screening that led to where the device was hidden.
Showing his great respect for Alhaji Fuseini, he posited, “I seriously want to believe that it is an act of negligence” but commended the former minister for owning up swiftly, which he said is a “mark of integrity”.
Kwame Jantuah, a member of the Convention People’s Party, was apparently disappointed in the MP, raising a number of questions generally relating to his self awareness.
“At what point did he realise it was not working and what did he do about it?” he quipped for instance. “I do not buy negligence” he strongly stated.
He therefore made a rather arduous demand insisting “all public offices should be swept and Ghanaians should be told about the outcome”.
Dr. Clement Apaak, the Member of Parliament for Builsa South on NDC ticket, wants calls for his colleague’s prosecution stalled until investigators are done with their work since the former minister has indicated his willingness to cooperate.
