The Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has reported of a jailbreak in a press release issued on Monday.
It is unclear what caused the incident but according to the police six escaped from custody on Sunday, April 26.
Half of the escapees were, however, rearrested “through swift police action”.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining three suspects, the police said.
“The Command has initiated a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape,” the release signed by Head of Public Affairs of the Command Supt. Juliana Obeng said.
“It has intensified a manhunt to arrest the remaining three escapees and ensure they are brought to justice.”
The police also clarified that the escapees are not linked to the murder of the father-in-law of Ghana Gold Board Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
“The Command clarifies that the individuals involved were never detained at the Adabraka Police Station in connection with that case and are not related to the said incident.”
The police assured the public of their commitment to maintaining law and order and urge anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of the remaining escapees to report to the nearest police station.
