The Minority has condemned in the strongest and most unequivocal terms the arrest of former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Maxwell Kofi Jumah.
“We hold the view that this arrest is politically directed and forms part of a concerted effort to weaponise State institutions against political opponents,” the Minority said in a statement issued by Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin on Wednesday, April 29.
Mr Kofi Jumah was arrested same day over investigations into his administration as MD for GIHOC Distilleries.
The Minority insisted that the action by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has not come in a vacuum.
The caucus said Kofi Jumah’s private residence in Atonsu was raided on Tuesday, April 14 while he was not at home.
“They seized his personal documents including a laptop and keys to his property. No formal charges were communicated to him or his legal representatives.
“His legal team has publicly described the raid as unlawful and lodged a formal complaint at the Asokwa Divisional Police Command.”
The Minority, therefore, raised concerns about the latest arrest, insisting it is the conduct of a government weaponising the machinery of state against its opponents.
“The goal of this Government is to weaken the NPP as a political force capable of holding the Mahama administration accountable. That agenda will fail.”
The Minority listed a litany of crimes that have been left uninvestigated under the current Mahama-led administration.
“The Ministry of Roads and Highways, under this very Mahama administration, has, as revealed by investigative outlet The Fourth Estate through Right to Information requests, awarded 81 sole-sourced contracts worth more than GH₵73 billion within just seven months under the flagship Big Push road programme, with approximately 76% of all contracts awarded between September 2025 and February 2026 bypassing competitive tendering entirely.
“This is the same President Mahama who, at his 2025 State of the Nation Address, vowed to “minimise sole-source procurement,” and repeated that vow at the 2026 SONA.”
