The destruction of water bodies by the activities of illegal small-scale mining has taken on international dimension as Ivory Coast has complained its water supply system is being affected.
Leaders of Ivory Coast have, therefore, alerted Ghana’s government over the canker.
These were revealed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday when he met a section of the media at the Flagstaff House in Accra.
It was an interaction to ostensibly review his first six months in office.
In answering the very first question on the day, posed by TV3’s Nana Kweku Aduah, President Akufo-Addo narrated how the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Boateng, had been given a message by the Ivorian leaders during a conference in Abidjan about the effect galamsey is having on them.
President Akufo-Addo assured all gathered that government will mobilize all available resources to fight the menace.
He said he is not daunted by threats by illegal small-scale miners not to give him their votes in 2020, reiterating his earlier vow to put his presidency on the line.
“This will not stop me,” he maintained.
