The Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana has raised serious concerns about recent wrangling within the Electoral Commission.
The Association feels that the speed with which the public opinion court has handled the ongoing internal wrangling at the Electoral Commission suggests that there is an ulterior agenda to remove her from office and they find such unhealthy.
In a statement signed by the president and spokesperson, Bishop Prince Benny Wood, the Association expressed worry about the said seeming attempts.
“The Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana takes great exception to the subtle attempt by some unknown faces allegedly at the EC to blackmail the Electoral Commissioner Mrs Charlotte Osei out of office. This we see as dangerous and recipe for chaos in the country as the two main political parties takes opposite positions in the ensuing “Crisis” “the statement read.
The statement further states that all hope is not lost for the Electoral Commission yet as such calls for the resignation of the electoral commission boss are unfounded.
“Irrespective of the rancor nature of the unfolding events at the EC we still believe the commission is capable of rising to the occasion if the need be, therefore any call for Resignation or removal is premature and misplaced.”
The Electoral Commission has for the past few weeks been under the spotlight for allegations raised against the electoral commissioner demanding for her impeachment. It has since been a trade of allegations between the electoral commissioner and 2 of her deputy commissioners.
