Omane Boamah Urges Electoral Reforms as NDC Marks 33rd Anniversary

As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) commemorates its 33rd anniversary, calls for electoral reforms have taken center stage, with leading party figures like Dr. Edward Omane Boamah rallying support for a more transparent and inclusive electoral system in Ghana.

In a statement marking the milestone, Dr. Omane Boamah—Ghana’s Minister for Defence and the outgoing Director of Elections and IT for the NDC,

congratulated party members, supporters, and sympathizers.

He praised the enduring vision of the party’s founding leaders, crediting their resolve with shaping the NDC into what he described as a “robust entity” today.

“Our collective success in the 2024 elections underscores the power of problem identification, innovation, unity, collaboration, and determination,” he remarked stressing that as the NDC charts its path into the future, the party must prioritize the development and deployment of highly skilled human resources who are equipped to manage the complexities of modern electoral systems.

Dr. Boamah highlighted the need for a strategic embrace of digital technology and innovative tools, emphasizing their critical role in enhancing efficiency, security, and accuracy throughout the electoral process.

In doing so, he urged the NDC to uphold its foundational principles of transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability.

By staying true to these values, Dr. Boamah said, the party can strengthen public confidence and reinforce its credibility within Ghana’s democratic framework.

He argued that technological advancement must go hand in hand with integrity and openness if the nation’s democratic institutions are to thrive.

Central to Dr. Boamah’s message was a clarion call for meaningful electoral reforms that go beyond rhetoric to ensure equity in Ghana’s democratic space.

He said that reforms must aim to empower every citizen equally, ensuring that no vote is discounted or disregarded.

“We must not only advocate for a level playing field that empowers every Ghanaian’s voice to be heard and every vote to count, but also we must take legitimate, decisive steps to achieve that,” he stated.

According to Boamah, advancing electoral justice is not solely the responsibility of the NDC, but a shared national obligation.

He appealed for collective effort, stating, “Let us work together with all stakeholders to achieve electoral reforms that will promote a more inclusive and transparent electoral process.”

The Defence Minister praised the contributions of the party’s early leaders and urged the youth to channel their “dynamism and passion” into shaping a better democratic future.

Reassuring young supporters, he said opportunities were being created to ensure their involvement and inclusion in national development and party leadership.

“While commending our NDC forebears for their foundational work and our youth for their dynamism and passion, I wish to assure that opportunities are being created for each and every one of you. We shall not leave you behind!”

Dr. Edward Omane

Boamah’s comments point to a party determined to evolve beyond internal victories toward wider democratic accountability.

With rising public demand for electoral transparency in Ghana, the NDC’s message seems strategically focused on public trust and reform ahead of future elections.

Dr. Boamah also spoke of national unity and hope, urging party members and all Ghanaians to work together for peace, prosperity, and stability.

Concluding with a call to action, the NDC starlwart reinforced the party’s vision for an inclusive Ghana. “Let us march forward together, united in our quest for a more just and equitable society. 3y3 Zu! 3y3 Za!” he declared.

As the NDC enters its 34th year, the anniversary serves not only as a moment of celebration but also as a renewed commitment to fighting for a democratic system that leaves no one behind.

Dr. Boamah’s message, rooted in electoral reforms, resonates as both a tribute to the party’s past and a challenge to its future.
