Mama Acheampong, the secondary school teacher of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, has recalled an encounter she had with fans of the popular artiste.

According to the educationist, singling out of them, she said a female fan once prevailed on her to help her get the popular artiste to look in her way and possibly marry her.

The close confident of the now deceased, who died on Saturday, July 27, exactly a week today, said this during an in-studio interview on Angel TV on Friday August 1.

She said the fan was so desperate for Lumba’s attention that she said that she will not mind if the marriage will last for even just a year.

Choosing to leave the name of the fan, she said the lady question is a prominent television personality in Ghana.

“There were so many women who wanted him. On top media personality approached me with a plea to convince Lumba to marry her. She said Mama, tell your son to marry me, even if it is for just a year and we divorce, I will be happy”, she said.

The incident apparently happened when the celebrated highlife musician celebrated his 60th birthday in 2024 and a big bash was held in his honour.

Mama Acheampong, who had played the role of a mother until Lumba’s demise was at the bash when the fan approached her and made her intention known.

Asked why the deceased always talked about his death and bidding of farewell, she said Lumba came from a humble background and passed through a lot to reach where he got to but he was also not healthy because of diseases.

On her birthday, she said her former student expressed excitement about the fact that he had turned 60 years. This was so because the father id 10 did not believe he will live to celebrate that number of years because of ill health,

She said for over a decade, Lumba was battling one disease or the other, making him doubt he was going to live long.

“He was not a happy man because of his background due to the fact that there was poverty but juggled through it all then along the line he had to battle different sicknesses. These sicknesses will not let him live his life in peace. He was battling different disease so he did not anticipate that he will live up to that age.

I recall on his birthday, you can see me sitting by his side, he held my hand and said I did not believe that I will live up to 60 years. Then I said yes Charles, you are 60 years, and he resorted really? Then he said we are not going to celebrate this but the 61st then I will know that, I have turned 60 and plus one. He did not believe so he exclaimed Mama so I am 60 and I responded yes you are 60 years”.

This is buttressed by one of the mentees of Lumba, SHE who said in an interview that, when the artiste’s mother died at a little over 50 year, he confided in her that, he will live past her mother with few years.’

Meanwhile, Mama Acheampong has added her voice to calls to hold the final funeral rites of the late music icon. She told host Sadick Adams that it will be better to hold the ceremony in Accra and his body taken to his hometown in Ashanti Region.

Her position, she indicated, is supported by the uncle of Lumba who succeeded his father culturally adding that he informed her that, he wants the government of Ghana which has pledged state burial, to hold the funeral in Accra but he will personally ensure his body is flown to his hometown at Nsuta for the burial rites.

The legendary highlife musician shockingly died last week Saturday at the Bank Hospital at Cantonments in Accra after a short illness.

A candlelight programme is being held under the auspices of the Creative Art Agency at the Independence Square in Accra, today August 2. The event is going to be carried live on various television stations. Officially, Lumba was known to have fathered 10 children with two wives, German-based Akosua Serwah and Pricella Ofori-Atta alias Odo Broni.
