The Ghana Armed Force (GAF) says it has not detained the body of the military officer who died in a car crash with Ghanaian dancehall artiste Ebony last Thursday.

It explained that the mortal remains of the Airman, Lance Corporal Francis Atsu Vondee, which is currently at the 37 Military Hospital morgue in Accra, is being preserve and would be released to the family for burial after its investigations.

There were reports that the body of the 29-year old soldier who was said to be guarding the deceased musician, had been detained by the GAF to face court martial but that has been refuted by the military.

A statement issued by the Director of Public Relations at GAF, Col. E. Aggrey-Quashie, said it is standard procedure of the military to evacuate all its personnel who are involved in an accident irrespective of where the incident happens.

“After the evacuation, investigations are conducted to among other things, determine the circumstances that led to the accident with the view of putting measures in place to if possible avoid or minimize occurrence of similar incidents.

“In the instant case of this Airman, it is stressed that investigations are being instituted to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the sad incident,” it said in the statement issued on February 11.

The statement urged the public to mourn and sympathize with the bereaved families and also respect their sensibilities instead of exacerbating their pain fabricated stories.

It has meanwhile extended its condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery, Ebony’s driver, speedy recovery.

Ebony, born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, was returning from Sunyani to Accra on February 8 having visited her mother when the Jeep SUV she was travelling in crashed into a VIP bus on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway.

Three passengers in the Jeep – Ebony, her best friend Franky and Airman Vondee- died in the accident while the driver is currently in a critical situation receiving treatment.

The 20-year-old, whose career was blossoming after releasing a number of hits, would have turned 21 years on February 16.
