Close to 6,000 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have congregated at the Koforidua Technical University in the Eastern Region for the 2018 National Annual Delegates’ Conference.
The Conference is expected to elect new executives for the party for the next four years.
It will also consider a new constitution for the ruling party.
The Conference has been dominated by campaigns by some 42 candidates vying for eight executive positions.
Three candidates – Freddie Blay, Stephen Ayesu Ntim and Dr Richard Amoako Baah – are vying for the substantive position of National Chairman.
Seven candidates including Agnes Asangalisa Chigabatia are vying for the National Vice Chair positions. Three will be elected, one as the First Vice Chair and the others as the Second and Third Vice Chairs.

Outgoing National Organiser John Boadu, who told TV3 on Friday that he had the support of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will face Richard Ahiagbah for the General Secretary position. Mr Boadu has acted as the General Secretary since the suspension of Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in 2015.
While six persons including incumbent Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah are vying for the National Treasurer positions, 14 are vying for the National Nasara Coordinator positions.
Kate Gyamfua and Joyce Konokie Zempare are vying for the National Women’s Organiser post to take over from Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection Otiko Afisa Djaba, who had to abdicate her post as a result of the ministerial appointment.
Outgoing National Youth Organiser Samuel Awuku is going for the National Organiser position. He has Emmanuel Tweneboa Kodua and Sulemana Sadik Nabicheinga to scale over.
The most highly contested position, arguably, is what Mr Awuku is walking away from.
Henry Nana Boakye, Kamal-Deen Abdulai, who is also leaving the Nasara Coordinator post, Nana Bediako Appiah and Dominic Eduah, who was Mr Awuku’s deputy, will contest for the National Youth Organiser position.
President Akufo-Addo as well as former President John Agyekum Kufuor will be at the University’s park to address the teeming party supporters.
The votes are expected to be held smoothly as 12 centres will be mounted for the exercise, a marked departure from previous conferences.
The party will hold a thanksgiving service on Sunday at the Jesus Temple of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in the Eastern Region capital to crown the three-day conference.
