The Auditor-General’s Department says it has identified some irregularities in the ongoing National Payroll and Verification Audit, which began in the Central Region on Tuesday.
“We have identified some irregularities in the system and what we can say for now is that those above 60 years and are still working in government agencies should come along with their approval letter indicating the government has given them the approval to work,” Deputy Auditor-General George Swanzy Winful told Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa on Wednesday.
The Auditor-General’s Department and the Office of Special Prosecutor are collaborating to audit the payroll of the entire public service.
The move is to curtail the issue of ghost names that have bedeviled the government’s payroll for years in spite of the frequent cleansing.
The Auditor-General’s Department, the Office of Special Prosecutor and the Ministry of Finance with support from the World Bank are embarking on this novel exercise.
The exercise began will move to the Western Region from the Central Region after 10 days.
Mr. Swanzy Winful told Yen Nsempa host Bright Kwasi Asempa that “if you are above 60, come along with the letter which indicates that government has given you the approval to continue working because some people are allowed to work after 60, especially, medical doctors”.
“Some people do not have the right to continue working after 60 [years], so if you are above 60 and still working and on government payroll, come along with your letter,” he explained.
