Senior Nursing officer Josephine Owusu-Takyi (R) received the items on behalf of the hospital

As part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the country, Van Moorhouse Foundation, an NGO committed to enhancing lives of the underprivileged in the society, has extended its charity arm to the Renal and Oncology Units of the Child Health Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital with assorted items worth GH¢10,000.

It has also presented an unspecified amount of cash to support the payment of hospital bills including drug prescriptions among others of the disadvantaged children.

The items included cartons of bottled mineral water, clothes, toiletries, toys, books, mackintosh bed, diapers and food.

The idea was borne out of compassion to reach out and relieve the plights of the underprivileged children upon realization that the two units under the Child Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been neglected for far too long when it comes giving to support the patients.

“Upon our own research, we’ve gathered that these are two of the Departments under the  Korle Bu Teaching Hospital who are often neglected when it comes to donations therefore we want to be a bit different to look at places that are sensitive and vital”.

Presenting the items, Country Representative of Van Moorhouse Foundation, Abrefa Busia said: “This is just a token out of love from us to you”, we pray that next time it would even be much greater than this one.”

Receiving the items on behalf of the Child Health Department, Senior Nursing officer Josephine Owusu-Takyi thanked the donors for the support.

“We wish to say a big thank you to Van Moorhouse Foundation for remembering our children and donating items to enhance their treatment and recovery.”

She averred that the items will be of immense help to the kids especially for those patients who cannot afford anything.

While commending the donors for the support, she used the opportunity to appeal to all benevolent institutions, corporate organizations, individuals and the general public to emulate the gesture and donate generously to support the Child Health Department to save lives.

According to her, the Child Health Department is in dire need of clothes, shirts, medications and consumables such as syringes, needles including other medical equipment to deliver healthcare and improve the children’s lives.

It is the first time Van Moorhouse Foundation is donating to support a worthy barely seven months since its inception.

Mr. Abrefa Busia in an interview maintained the Foundation has come to stay as the one with the vision and commitment to enhance lives no matter the cause.

He hinted the Foundation would continue to extend its charity arm to cover other hospitals not only in Accra but across the entire country.

Finally, he expressed profound gratitude to Vanessa Moorhouse and family(founders), Mr. Kweku Sosoo and Mr & Mrs Akrofi (patrons) for their unflinching support towards making the visions of the foundation a success.
