Ghana may not recover from current football crisis – Aduana Stars CEO

Mr. Nyantakyi is being investigated for defrauding by false pretence
The investigations resulted in Kwesi Nyantakyi resigning as GFA President

Chief Executive Officer of Aduana Stars Football Club  Albert Commey says the decision by government to dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is likely to put Ghana under serious repercussions and since the government initiated this move on its own, it should fix it.

“The ban will have a serious repercussion against Ghana in areas that one might not know and that is the danger ahead of us,” he mentioned.

Ghana’s football came to a halt in June after the government applied to an Accra High Court to dissolve the country’s football governing body due to alleged corruption claims exposed by an investigation of undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

In a warning letter to Ghana on Monday, FIFA cited certain breaches in its statutes, saying it prohibits all forms of interference from governments in its activities.

Speaking on the 3FM’s Sunrise on Wednesday, Mr Commey mentioned that club owners have been affected innocently by the move of government and since they cannot do anything to change the situation, they will have to bear its outcome.

“It doesn’t lie within our purview to do anything but we are affected innocently, and the dissolution will put the cub owners in a bad state,” he said.

According to him, football clubs might not recover from this since all activities have been brought to a halt and all signed contracts by the various clubs are being put to a stop hence the clubs are indirectly affected by this situation.

He said people with the passion to support football might quit if they lose interest for the game.

“If we don’t take time Ghana might not recover from this. There are those who have gone into football because of the passion they have hence if they lose the passion, there is no way they will contribute to football financially,” he noted.

He believes, however, that the government has the experience and know-how to solve the issues pertaining to Ghanaian football.
