Two persons have died in the Eastern Region after consuming fufu and soup prepared with a puffer fish, which medical doctors say is highly poisonous.
Four others, including two children who also ate the same meal at Abontanse, near Donkorkorom, have been paralysed and on admission at the Donkokrom Presbyterian Hospital in the Kwahu Afram Plains North.
The deceased, a man and his mother, were sent to the Hospital dead, authorities told 3news.com Saturday, adding information they were said to have been first sent to a prayer camp when they had an attack Thursday night.
They were said to have eaten the highly toxic fish at about 6:00pm Thursday shortly after which the deceased started complaining of abdominal pains, witnesses told 3news.
Medical superintendent of the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital, Dr Ziblim Kasule, said the four others were brought in Friday between the hours of 1:00 and 13:30 am.
They complained of abdominal pains, the doctor told 3news, adding they had been vomiting from 11:00pm Thursday.
Dr Ziblim said the four have developed paralysis and weak limps, and are unable to walk unless aided.
He said the two children among them are however responding to treatment.
Initial investigation have revealed the wife of the deceased bought the fish from Donkorkrom markek
The Kwahu Afram Plains North Public Health Directorate and the police are currently investigating the matter.
