The much-awaited committee to oversee the reformation of Ghana football has finally been constituted by the sport’s world-governing body.
FIFA recommended a Normalisation Committee to ensure the return of proper structures to govern football in the country.
The recommendation was a fallout from a meeting between the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, and FIFA officials.
On Thursday, Dr Kofi Amoah, the head of the Liaison Team which has overseen affairs since the government dissolved the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has been named as President of the Committee.
Lucy Quist, a former Chief Executive Officer of erstwhile Airtel Ghana, will serve as the Vice President of the Committee.
Naa Odofoley Nortey of Ghana’s Attorney-General’s Department and Kofi Dua-Adonteng, a former board member of Asante Kotoko, will serve as members of the four-member committee.
They have up to March 31, 2019 to wrap up work.
Between now and then, however, the Committee is expected to ensure that new statutes are formulated for the management of football in the country and ultimately oversee the election of executive committee members onto the new GFA.
The Committee is also expected to monthly update FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on all its activities.
All these are coming as a result of an investigative piece by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who exposed graft at the erstwhile GFA.
Then President Kwesi Nyantakyi was the villain of a documentary film that told the story of the exposé.
