Three of the suspects who were declared wanted by the Ashanti Regional Police Command over a shooting incident at the regional office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi have reported themselves to the police.
The three suspects, Dauda Ibrahim, 40, alias ‘Wayo’, Agyin Samuel, 32, alias ‘Rock’, and Abdul Ganiyu, 37, alias ‘Petit’ were among 12 suspects declared wanted by the police in connection with the shooting incident, which led to the death of one person.
On Monday, February 18, some armed men suspected to be members of pro-NDC vigilante group Azorka Boys stormed the NDC office in Kumasi where a meeting between some national and regional executives of the party was being held and disrupted the meeting by firing gunshots.
Following the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Command declared some twelve persons wanted in connection with the crime.
Briefing the media on Friday, March 1, Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said some three suspects have reported themselves to the police, and are currently in custody under investigation.
He also stated that the police is still pursuing the remaining nine suspects.
The remaining nine are Abdul Bari Mohammed alias ‘Warrior’, Midjima, Abu Taliban, Sanni Mohammed alias ‘commando’, Gyafaru alias ‘element’, Fuseni alias ‘Jah Rule’, Demos, Fayiz and Suleiman alias ‘Akon’.
Meanwhile, the lawyer for the suspects, Evans Amankwah, said his clients are innocent and they will prove that at the law court.
Evans Amankwah was at the regional police headquarters to seek bail for his clients, but unfortunately the court did not sit.
“We are expecting police to grant them bail because the fact of the matter is that the suspects tendered themselves to the police through their lawyer and they have shown good faith, so police must also show good faith by granting them bail,” he said.
