The family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo has expressed regret over Sunday’s shooting incident that left former Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo hospitalised.
“The family wishes to assure members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, relatives, friends, sympathisers, and the general public that Hon. Adwoa Safo is currently in a stable condition and responding positively to medical treatment,” a statement on Monday, June 22 said.
It further insisted that the former MP for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency is the “duly recognised Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family”.
The statement noted that with the exception of Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, the rest of the children of the late entrepreneur and manufacturer remain united and committed to “ensuring a dignified and befitting burial for their late father”.
The family clarified that an earlier authority by the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo on Akofena as his successor was revoked seven years later after a significant decline in the fortunes of several businesses within the Kristo Asafo conglomerate.
After concerns were raised about the persona of Akofena, Apostle Kwadwo Safo appointed his daughter, Sarah, as the Head of the Family while establishing a succession plan for future leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
“Accordingly the succession framework was amended and explicitly excluded Mr. Israel Safo from consideration for the leadership position.”
The family, therefore, noted that it does not recognise Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the family head nor his purported installation as head.
“Accordingly, the family dissociates itself from any claim by Mr. Israel Safo that he is acting on behalf of the Kwadwo Safo Family or with the authority of the family.”
