Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has accused Nana Akufo-Addo and his government of dishonesty, claiming they have been commissioning existing factories under the 1-District-1-Factory initiative.
He mentioned Pure Joy and the Fujian Sentuo Ceramics Company commissioned by President Akufo-Addo, as some of the already existing companies the government is seeking to claim credit for in the name of the 1-D, 1-F initiative.
“So, the point about One-district-one factory has become a fiasco”, he said Thursday on TV3 morning magazine show, the New Day. His comment was on the back of the commission of the ceramic factory Wednesday by the President.
He described as a complete failure, the ‘1-D, 1-F’ which prior to the 2016 general elections, the government touted as one of its key programmes to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.
According to the MP the government offers very little relative to what it promises Ghanaians.
“I’m of the view that what NPP does better than the NDC is to talk a lot about things that really don’t matter, but do very little,” Mr Suhuyini stated.
Quoting an online news item dated August 2016, he said the ceramic factory was supervised by the John Mahama government, which he said did not promise one-district, one-factory “yet delivered”
“That’s the dishonesty, that’s the deception that this government is on”, Mr Suhuyini reiterated.
This was after NPP communicator, Richard Ahiagbah, had touted the commissioning of the factory as one of the interventions to stabilise the falling Ghana cedi.
Commenting on the depreciation of the Ghana cedi, Mr Suhuyini observed the President shied away from commenting on the matter in his state of the nation address, despite his 14 pages talk about issues of the economy.
“I’m saying that he dedicated 14 chapters to the economy; if you pick the State of the Nation Address, the longest in his address on any sector, but the performance of the cedi against international trading currencies is unable to find space in these 14 chapters ”, he said.
Mr Ahiagbah however insisted that the current depreciation of the cedi is relatively better than it was during the NDC administration.
Even though he could not give a definite timeline which the cedi will be stabilised, he expressed optimism that with the introduction of the 1-District-1-Factory, the cedi will pick up.
