Sergio Ramos scored the only goal for a second consecutive game as Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao to move closer to the La Liga title. Ramos slammed home a penalty – just as he did on Thursday against Getafe – after Dani Garcia fouled Marcelo in a decision given by VAR. He has scored five goals in seven matches – all wins – since the restart. Defending champions Barcelona took the gap back to four points when they beat Villarreal 4-1 on Sunday night. Real Madrid’s win over Athletic Bilbao was a game of few goalscoring chances, with Thibaut Courtois…
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is in Ghana self-isolating at the Presidential Villa inside the Jubilee House, the Head of Communications at the Presidency has stated. This comes after a local newspaper, The Herald, reported on Sunday that President Akufo-Addo had been “flown out of the country to London for Covid-19 treatment”. “It is clearly a figment of the author’s imagination,” Eugene Arhin posted on Facebook on Sunday. The President is said to have been exposed to Covid-19 and, on the advice of his doctors, proceeded on a 14-day self-isolation. Mr Arhin said the president is in the country and…

A professor of epidemiology, Fred Newton Binka, has predicted that Ghana will hit the 50,000-mark in Covid-19 cases in no time. He said this is as a result of the wanton disregard of the public to all the safety protocols in preventing the disease. Ghana has so far recorded 20,085 cases of the virus since its outbreak on Thursday, March 12, 2020. One hundred and twenty-two persons have lost their lives while 14,870 persons have beaten the disease. But speaking on The Key Points on TV3/3FM on Saturday, July 3, Prof Binka says the country will be hitting 50,000 soon.…
US rapper Kanye West has said he is running for president, potentially pitting him against a man he says he admires, Donald Trump. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,” he tweeted. “I am running for president of the United States!” His wife Kim Kardashian West and entrepreneur Elon Musk endorsed him. But it’s unclear whether West is really running. He does not appear to have registered his name with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for November’s election. The closest name the FEC database shows is a candidate called…
The Director of Electoral Services of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) says the election-management body cannot be held responsible for the wanton abandonment of Covid-19 preventive protocols at registration centres. Dr Serebour Quaicoe says the Commission has done its part by putting in place all the measures but it behoves on other stakeholders, particular individuals to be responsible. The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) had called for the prosecution of all EC officials as well as political party agents for any breaches of Covid-19 protocols that will lead to mass infections. In a statement issued prior to the start of the…
The Director of Electoral Services of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), Dr Serebour Quaicoe, has hinted that directives have been given to registration officers at the various centres to turn away any persons who flout measures put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus. He said the directives demand that officers see to it that persons comply with the protocols at all times. The new voter registration exercise, which started on Tuesday, June 30, has seen would-be voters defying the social distancing rule in the fight against Covid-19. The EC says it has been helpless particularly outside the perimeter…
A legal practitioner and volunteer at Legal Assistance Network, Portia Ahiawordor, has advised couples to hasten slowly when investing in extended family properties. Speaking on 3FM’s flagship family mentorship programme, IDEAL HOME, she explained that putting up a building for instance on a land that belongs to your extended family is a futile adventure. She was reacting to a letter written by a widow to host of the show Etornam Sey, seeking legal advice as her husband died interstate. He left her with four children. According to the letter, she and her late husband invested in putting up a building…
The Chief Executive of Okere District Assembly, Daniel Kenneth, has dismissed rumours that Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere Constituency Daniel Botwe has died. Dan Botwe, who is also Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development, was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) after testing positive for coronavirus. Mr Kenneth said the Okere MP was discharged “by God’s grace” on Saturday. “I wish to implore all concerned persons not to be alarmed and that he’s home with his family,”…
Final year and second-year Gold Track students of Diabene Senior High and Technical School in Takoradi went on rampage Saturday night after a female student collapsed. It is unclear what might have caused the fainting of the students but her mates fear it may be as a result of spiritual attack. According to them, authorities have turned a deaf ear to their calls for an improvement in the lighting at their hostel. The second year students complained that they have been experiencing spiritual attacks, which has resulted in many of them collapsing more often than not. The confusion on Saturday…
