President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that the Ghana Education Service (GES) in consultation with relevant stakeholders has moved the next academic year for nursery, kindergarten, primary and junior high schools to January 2021. Ghana has recorded six additional deaths as regards the coronavirus pandemic. In its latest update released on Sunday, August 30, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said 87 new cases were confirmed. This has shot the total cumulative cases to 44,205. By the new deaths, the number has risen from 270 to 276. The recoveries-cum-discharges continue to rise marginally as the number is currently 42,777. This has seen a tremendous reduction in the number of active cases under care and management. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is said to have sought the help of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to retrieve the server of Blackshield Capital Management Limited as part of investigations. Blackshield Capital Management, formerly known as Gold Coast Fund Management, was one of the fund management firms whose licenses were revoked in 2019. Though expressing disappointment with SEC’s decision, Blackshield says it has cooperated with SEC all through the investigations. Residents in coastal areas of Louisiana in the US face the prospect of weeks without power or water as the clean-up begins following the devastating impact of Hurricane Laura. More than 400,000 were without power on Saturday morning and 200,000 without water, officials said. Governor John Bel Edwards says the devastation and damage stretch all the way to northern parts of Louisiana. At least 14 people were killed by the storm – 10 in Louisiana, four in Texas.
