The Authority on Friday announced that it would begin the distribution of the cards from Monday, June 8 at 5,635 centres to be mounted in all 16 regions. It was to end on Tuesday, June 16. Muslims in Kumasi on Friday observed Jummah prayers for the first time in 12 weeks amid Covid-19 safety precautions. Four more persons have lost their lives to coronavirus in Ghana, pushing the number of deaths from 38 to 42. The cumulative case count since Thursday, March 12, when the first two index cases were recorded, is now 9,168. The Volta Region Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC) has filed a suit at the Human Rights Division of the High Court, seeking an interlocutory injunction against the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) and the Attorney General in compiling a new voter register with only a Ghana Card or national passport as basic required documents.
