The Minister of Health by the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851) has directed the wearing of face masks by all and sundry to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Section 170(1) of the Act clothes the Minister with powers to order an individual to take a preventive measure in respect of public health matters. More than 200,000 people worldwide have now died with the coronavirus, figures from Johns Hopkins University show. There are more than 2.8 million confirmed cases of Covid-19, according to the tally. It comes after the number of fatalities in the US passed 50,000, as Americans endure the world’s deadliest outbreak. About 50 fishermen who were put under mandatory quarantine for coronavirus took to the streets of Moree in the Central Region amid singing and dancing after being declared virus-free. The fishermen had been quarantined at the Moree Senior High and Technical School after returning from fishing exploration in Ivory Coast. The Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), Professor Peter Quartey, says government must target the agricultural sector in its economic efforts to recover from the Covid-19 crisis in the near future. More than 20,000 people have now died with coronavirus in UK hospitals, the Department of Health has announced. The latest figures showed a total of 20,319 deaths in the UK, up by 813 on the previous day. At the government’s daily briefing, the home secretary described the figure as a “tragic and terrible milestone”.
