The president of South Africa has warned that the country’s coronavirus outbreak is going to get much worse, while announcing that lockdown measures are to be eased. Cyril Ramaphosa said a third of the country’s more than 22,000 cases had been recorded in the last week. Despite that, the president said the current lockdown could not be sustained indefinitely. The 2nd Vice Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Henry Haruna Asante, has resigned. 3news.com cannot, however, confirm if the national executive was forced to resign. But he cites personal reasons for his decision. This comes barely three months after he was accused of wrongly transferring party funds into private bank accounts of the National Chairman, Bernard Mornah. Royal Foam Factory in Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region was gutted by fire Friday evening. The inferno is said to have started around 5:00pm and it took fire fighters well over three hours to bring it under control. A heavy downpour in the evening of Wednesday, May 20 resulted in flooding in some parts of the West Mamprusi Municipality, destroying close to 40 houses and displacing 197 people. Most of the homes in Nabulugu had their roofs ripped off, forcing residents to evacuate. The New Juaben South Municipality, which covers the capital of the Eastern Region, Koforidua, has recorded two cases of Covid-19. The Birim North District in the Region has also recorded a case. Figures from the collated data from the Regional Health Directorate put the regional case count at 117.
