The Ranking Member of the Committee on Mines and Energy in Parliament, Adam Mutawakilu, has called for an immediate reduction in prices of fuel. The Bank of Ghana has extended almost all deadlines for financial institutions, including when to meet its minimum capital requirement. Though no reasons were given, it is apparent that this has been necessitated by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The family of the late Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour is requesting an autopsy report from the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, where he died. Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour, who is the father of renowned musician Obour, died at the Hospital on Friday, March 27. He is said to have tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease. The former president of the Republic of Congo, Jacques Joaquim Yhombi-Opango, has died in Paris from complications related to coronavirus. He was 81 years old. His family said he had been ill before contracting the virus. Mr Yhombi-Opango led Congo-Brazzaville from 1977 until he was toppled in 1979 by the country’s current leader, Denis Sassou Nguesso. He spent several years in prison before multi-party democracy was introduced in 1991 and served as prime minister until civil war broke out in 1997. The President of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Professor Francis Dodoo, has been appointed as Chairman of the new Governance Commission of World Athletics. The decision to appoint the former President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) was taken at the sport’s world-governing body’s Council Meeting in Monaco on March 11-12. The decision was subsequently communicated in a circular from World Athletics Chief Executive Officer Jon Ridgeon to member federations on Friday, March 27.
