Scancom Plc, operators of MTN Ghana, have acknowledged media reports on moves by regulator National Communications Authority (NCA) to review their operations to ensure fair competition in the telecommunications industry. The youth in Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region are demanding transparency in investigations into a shooting incident which occurred last Saturday. Malawi’s President Peter Mutharika has appointed a new electoral commission chairperson ahead of a presidential re-run. The Constitutional Court had in February ordered a fresh presidential election be held within 150 days after annulling last year’s re-election of President Mutharika – a ruling upheld by the Supreme Court. The former commission chairperson Jane Ansah resigned amid criticism by the opposition on how she managed the disputed election. The governor of Nigeria’s Abia State has tested positive for coronavirus and has gone into isolation. Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s sample returned a positive test on 4 June, according to an official quoted by local media. The governor is reported to have directed his deputy to act on his behalf as he undergoes treatment. The south-eastern state has 83 out of about 12,400 confirmed coronavirus cases in Nigeria. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has instructed constituency executives to suspend, with immediate effect, all delegates who invoked curses on leadership over the disqualification of some parliamentary aspirants.
