From 4:00am Friday dawn, Very Reverend Father Bright Kennedy Agyepong took a solo walk from Somanya to Koforidua. His solo walk from Somanya to Koforidua took him eight hours on the 50-kilometre road. The historic walk by the Catholic priest and Head of Bright Inspirations was also to raise funds for some health facilities. At the end of the walk in Koforidua, the Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua, Rev. Monsignor Francis Twum Barimah, commended…
Ghana’s coronavirus case count has shot up by 921 confirmations, from 3,091 on Wednesday, May 6 to 4,012 on Friday, May 8. This was initially believed to come from the backlog of tests conducted by the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research into Tropical Medicine (KCCR) in Kumasi. But the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said it is as a result of an outbreak of the deadly viral disease in an industrial facility with 1,300 workers. Five hundred and thirty-three of the workers had their test samples confirmed positive. It is almost two months since Ghana recorded its first case of Covid-19.…
Odion Ighalo hopes his loan deal at Manchester United is extended until the Premier League season is completed. The Nigeria striker, 30, moved from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua in January and has a contract until 31 May. Premier League bosses hope to resume the season in June but, with China’s Super League also intent on a restart, Ighalo may have to return to Shanghai. “I would like to finish the season if it’s possible,” Ighalo told BBC Sport. “I was in good form, good shape, scoring goals and now we’ve stopped now for over a month. I’ve given it my…
As many as 190,000 people across Africa could die in the first year of the coronavirus pandemic if crucial containment measures fail, the World Health Organization (WHO) warns. The new research also predicts a prolonged outbreak over a few years. “It likely will smoulder in transmission hot spots,” says WHO Africa head Matshidiso Moeti. This patchier and slower pattern of transmission sets Africa apart from other regions, WHO experts say. Other factors taken into account are the region’s younger populations who have “benefitted from the control of communicable diseases such as HIV and tuberculosis”, as well as lower mortality rates.…
Ivory Coast has reopened bars and restaurant in all provinces except the main city, Abidjan. While announcing the easing of restrictions, President Alassane Ouattara said there had been “satisfactory results” so far but warned that “we have not yet won the battle”. “No positive case has been detected in the interior of the country since April 21,” he said in an address on public television. Gatherings of up to 200 people are now allowed but social distancing has to be ensured. The curfew hours in Abidjan have been shortened to start at 23:00 local time, instead of 21:00. Bars and…
Kevin-Prince Boateng has suggested for the first time that he could be open to a Ghana return six years after he last played for the Black Stars. The Germany-born former international, who openly admitted he had chosen Ghana with his ‘head’, has often suggested he was done with the Black Stars after his spectacular fallout with then boss Kwesi Appiah at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. But in a conversation with his brother, Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng on Instagram Live, the former Ghana star said he was open to the idea of playing at international level again because…
The “No mask, no entry” policy is in full force around Ghana, and I can tell from all the visible shop decals that property owners are enforcing it to the letter. But a mask is a mask and a mask, branded or not. You need the right mask on to help fight the spread of COVID-19……. The temptation by big and small brands, social groups, and political parties to put their logos or brand on a face mask is so intense, and I can understand why. But if your face mask cannot heal COVID-19, please don’t put your brand on…

The Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Mr Ken Koomson, has said that Ghanaians must brace themselves up for tougher periods ahead following the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on global economies. He told host of Sunrise on 3FM Alfred Ocansey on Thursday that given Africa and, for that matter, Ghana becoming a big market for goods produced by the advanced countries, citizens will have to be prepared for difficult season ahead due to the devastation of these giant economies by the pandemic. Mr Koomson, however, said to be able to deal with the impact of the…
Veteran Coach J. E. Sarpong has called on football authorities in the country to pay off outstanding salaries and bonuses owed fellow coach Kwesi Appiah. The outspoken former Kotoko and Hearts trainer believes the brouhaha surrounding the outstanding salaries of the former Black Stars coach is needless and misplaced. Coach J. E. Sarpong made the passionate call on Kumasi-based Akoma 87.9 FM on Thursday. Responding to a specific question on his thoughts about the infamous legacy debt of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in relation to the $180,000.00 owed Kwasi Appiah, the veteran coach stated, in Twi, “they should pay…
