The new President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, has told the BBC that his win in the rerun election was a “victory for democracy and justice”. Nine more persons have lost their lives to Covid-19 in Ghana, according to the latest release by the Ghana Health Service (GHS). This has seen the deaths rise from 103 as of Thursday, June 25 to 112 as of Friday, June 26. The total cases have also seen a jump to 16,742 after 311 new infections were recorded. Significantly, 12,720 of the patients have recovered and discharged, leaving 3,910 under care and management. Ghana’s latest Covid-19 case count has seen the total cumulative infections surpass 16,000. After 597 new cases were recorded as of Thursday, June 25, according to the Disease Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service, the country’s tally from Day 1 when the disease was recorded is now 16,431.
