A Virologist with the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) has admonished government to tread cautiously over its assertion that the virus that causes coronavirus has been contained. The US virus death toll has surpassed 50,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, in what is the world’s deadliest Covid-19 outbreak. Ghana Premier League club Hearts of Oak have denied signing former Black Stars midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari. Ghana’s case count as regards the coronavirus pandemic has reached 1,279 in the latest confirmation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS). Greater Accra Region’s case count has gone past the 1,000 mark as Oti Region becomes the latest region to record cases. While Greater Accra Region’s figure is 1,089, Oti Region’s is 13, which is joint 4th with Northern Region in the regional breakdown. The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against complacency in the fight against the coronavirus, saying the disease “will be with us for a long time”. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also warned of upward trends in Covid-19 cases in Africa, Eastern Europe, Central America and South America. The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has explained that it has not given approval for increment of transport fares in the country over the measures taken by the government in fighting against the coronavirus pandemic. The GPRTU said currently all transport fares remain the same even though the measures announced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is having a dire consequence on commercial drivers. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Achimota Divisional Police Command have apprehended two Chinese nationals at Kisseman, a suburb of Accra, for producing unregistered Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs). The two, a man and his wife, have been producing the PPEs in commercial quantities without approval from the FDA. The arrest was based upon a tip-off.
