This was made known after a crunch 4-hour meeting held on Wednesday, January 29 between the Embassy of Ghana and China executives of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS). About six persons are feared dead in an accident at Gomoa Odumase near Essuehyia in the Central Region. The accident occurred on Saturday at about 8:00am It involved an articulated truck heading towards Takoradi and an Accra-bound Toyota Hiace Mini Bus loaded with passengers. The Accra Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has rejected reports that it did not send security detail to the one-year commemorative durbar of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence. The Bank of Ghana kept its Policy Rate unchanged at 16.0 percent for the sixth meeting in a row as the Monetary Policy Committee takes a cautious outlook to growth and inflation. Dr Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, said the decision was taken to maintain the rate despite a fairly resilient and robust economic performance with regard to output growth and a strong trade and payments position. Messaging service WhatsApp will no longer work on millions of smartphones from 1 February. Android and iPhone devices which only support outdated operating systems will no longer be able to run the Facebook-owned app. WhatsApp said the move was necessary in order to protect the security of its users. Smartphones using Android 2.3.7 and older, and iPhone iOS 8 or older, are those affected by the update.
