President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged all, especially those in the football fraternity, to rally behind newly elected president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku. Kurt Okraku received massive endorsement after his closest contender George Akwasi Afriyie withdrew from the third round of voting. Taking to his official Twitter handle, President Akufo-Addo congratulated Kurt Okraku on his election as the 24th President of the GFA. Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku will head the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for at least the next four years. This was as a result of him winning the presidential elections held at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra on Friday, October 25. Mr Afriyie said: “In the interest of football, I concede defeat and I congratulate my brother.” But after extensive consultations, officials decided to continue with the third and final round of voting. The presidential elections of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is heading into a final round after two previous rounds failed to produce an outright winner. The Technical Universities Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has described as misleading claims made by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) on negotiations so far. The Commission on Thursday said the lecturers showed bad faith by declaring strike after series of negotiations, which saw them all migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) effective August, 2019. Amnesty International has condemned Iranian authorities for cutting off the fingers of a man convicted of theft. The rights group said the amputation, carried out at a prison in the northern province of Mazandaran, was “an abhorrent form of torture”. Iranian officials said the man was found guilty of 28 cases of theft. Iran’s Islamic penal code says theft “on the first occasion” is punishable by the amputation of four fingers of the right hand. The highest decision-making body of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has adopted court rulings to expand the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League to 18 clubs. The separate cases challenged the relegation of King Faisal Babes and Great Olympics from the country’s top-flight league.
