Relative calm has returned at Dagombaline Goro, a suburb of Kumasi, after a violent clash claimed two lives last Thursday. However, some residents especially women and children continue to flee the area for security reasons. Computer pioneer Fernando Corbato, who first used passwords to protect user accounts, has died aged 93. Dr Corbato introduced the basic security measure while developing methods that let more people use a computer at the same time. He developed a technique, called time-sharing, that divided up the processing power of a computer so it could serve more than one person at once. Dr Corbato reportedly died as a result of complications caused by diabetes. China’s economy grew at its slowest pace since the early 1990s in the second quarter, official figures showed. In the three months to June, the economy grew 6.2% from a year earlier. The result was in line with forecasts. China has moved to stimulate its economy this year by boosting spending and delivering tax cuts. The Normalisation Committee overseeing football in Ghana has called for a meeting with the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) to discuss the way forward for the possible start of the 2019/20 season. In a statement, which details the number of representatives for the meeting, the Committee wants Premier, Division One and Women Football clubs to come with the GHALCA Executive. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17. This comes in the wake of the exit of the Black Stars from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations and the demand of extension by the Committee from FIFA. Pupils of Kanda Basic School, within the Kanda Cluster of Schools, have benefitted from free school uniforms from Inspire To Rise, a non-governmental organisation. The number of women who picked nominations forms for the parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region was not encouraging, according to the regional secretariat. Only 20 out of the 118 prospective aspirants who picked forms to contest in various constituencies were women. The registration for private- and public-trained nurses who completed between 2012 and 2016 has been extended to Tuesday, July 16. This category of nurses from accredited health training institutions had up to Friday, July 12 to complete their registrations online.
