Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed sadness at the news of the passing of former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe. Comrade Mugabe, as he was affectionately known, died on Friday, September 6 in a Singaporean hospital. Fifty students from Ghana were among 1,600 students from Asia, Africa, and South America to successfully complete the annual AgroStudies project in Israel on Monday, September 2. The AgroStudies training is a joint project organized by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture. In Ghana, the project is a collaboration between the Embassy of Israel, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and AgroStudies of Israel. The students spent about 12 months in Israel during which they received training from various agronomists and agricultural instructors. Two-time Olympic 800m gold medallist Caster Semenya has joined a South African women’s football team. The 28-year-old is unable to compete without taking testosterone-reducing drugs following a rule change by the IAAF, athletics’ governing body. Karpowership Ghana Company Limited has resumed operations after a successful commissioning in Takoradi in the Western Region. The power ship went off on Thursday, August 17 to be relocated from Tema in the nation’s capital. Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s first post-independence leader, has died at the age of 95. He died after battling ill health, his family confirmed to the BBC. Mr Mugabe was ousted from power in a military coup in November 2017, ending his three-decade reign. Zimbabwe’s education secretary Fadzayi Mahere tweeted: “Rest In Peace, Robert Mugabe.” He was born on 21 February 1924, in what was then Rhodesia. A third year student of the University of Ghana Medical School has reportedly committed suicide. Joseph Opuni is said to have taken his life after failing his courses and therefore billed for repeat. The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has taken on the Office of Special Prosecutor in what it describes as an attempt to discredit it in an oil misappropriation case. In a letter to the CID, the Special Prosecutor, Martin Alamisi Amidu, accused the Directorate of failing to supply it with a 2011 docket on a probe into the misappropriation of a $15 million oil deal. A 20-year-old architectural engineering student of the Central University, David Gifat Ampiaw, has emerged the topmost winner of the maiden IFC Students Architectural Design Competition organized by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
