The immediate past Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Alfred Obeng Boateng, has asked relatives and well-wishers in general to ignore publications that he has been hospitalized. Reports in the media on Friday suggested that Mr Obeng Boateng has been hospitalized with high blood pressure after his dismissal from BOST. Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has survived an apparent bomb attack in the city of Bulawayo. Video footage from White City Stadium appears to show an explosion happening close to Mr Mnangagwa as he was leaving the stage having addressed supporters. While the president was unhurt, state TV reports that Vice-President Kembo Mohadi has suffered a leg injury. President Mnangagwa came into power last November, ousting his former mentor Robert Mugabe. The oil city of Sekondi-Takoradi is expected to go agog as the much-anticipated ‘Community Street Rap Battle 2018’ on Connect FM kick-starts on Saturday, June 23. Egypt’s football association will make a formal complaint to Fifa about the performance of referee Enrique Caceres during their World Cup loss to Russia. An Accra Human Rights Court has adjourned a case involving two citizens and the Ministry of Communications over the $178.8 million Kelni-GVG contract. The case was adjourned by Justice Anthony Yeboah to Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Ghana’s flagship policies might well stimulate the country’s economy but they won’t do much to get rid of poverty, even though that is their stated aim, says a UN human rights expert. “The Government claims that the economic stimulus provided by these programmes will automatically cut the country’s high rates of poverty and growing rates of urbanisation, but the main beneficiaries will be people with capital, and those who are politically well-connected,” said the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Philip Alston.
