Workers of the Metro Mass Transit Limited in Kumasi are not safe and their work has been often hampered by political figures and the police, it has been revealed. The workers’ union has, therefore, asked the company’s board to appoint a new manager for the Kumasi depot to ensure that operations run smoothly. China has told North Korean companies operating in its territory to close down as it implements United Nations sanctions against the reclusive state. The companies will be shut by early January. Joint Chinese and North Korean ventures will also be forced to close. China, Pyongyang’s only major ally, has already banned textile trade and limited oil exports. Three people have died of rabies in the Ashanti Region since the beginning of the year, the regional directorate of Veterinary Services has said. It added that the figure could be high as many cases in local communities are not reported. Rabies is a disease transmitted through the bite of rabid animals, especially dogs. The Ashanti Region is estimated to have a dog population of 327,704. In 2016, about 10,747 of these dogs were vaccinated. Over the period, 30 cases of the preventable viral disease were recorded.
