The fate of the two former inmates of Guantanamo Bay in Ghana is being decided upon by government and a report will be sent to Parliament when it resumes, the president has disclosed. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said the decision to either keep or release the two will be taken “now” and not in months. After being brought for asylum in Ghana in 2016, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby are expected to be a subject of a decision as their stay expired on Sunday, January 6, 2018. Their stay was only ratified by Parliament…
North and South Korea have agreed to march together under a single “unified Korea” flag at next month’s Winter Olympics in the South. They also agreed to field a joint women’s ice hockey team in rare talks at the truce village of Panmunjom. These are the first high-level talks between the two Koreas in more than two years. The Games will take place between 9 and 25 February in Pyeongchang in South Korea. If the plans are realised, a hundreds-strong North Korean delegation – including 230 cheerleaders, 140 orchestral musicians and 30 taekwondo athletes – could cross into the South…

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers-Ghana (COPEC) is demanding the dismissal of the Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, for “blatant denials” of the hikes in fuel prices. A statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Executive Secretary Duncan Amoah said the pump prices do not seem to stabilise anytime soon given the global trend. But the worry has been the false assurances given by the Energy Ministry, the statement insinuated. Already, transport operators are considering increase in fares due to the fuel price increases “The impending increases in transport fares by the GPRTU is indeed an indication of pretty difficult times…
Ghana striker Majeed Waris could be in new colours from the rest of the season as reports claim the French Ligue 1 side Caen has reached an agreement with the player. Waris, though, is yet to agree personal terms with the French side in order to push the move through. The former Spartak Moscow player is also on the books of Portuguese giants FC Porto and there is news that he could be off to Portugal with the club willing to offer him more money. Waris has already netted 9 goals this season for Lorient, adding up to the 11…
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has acknowledged that the Office of Special Prosecutor will not have the panacea to the quest to ending corruption among public officials. “But I do believe that at least the Office will remove the fear of partisan prosecution and begin to put the fear of God in all public officials who are intending to go down the path of corruption.” President Akufo-Addo expressed this sentiment on Wednesday when he met some selected journalists at the Banquet Hall of the Flagstaff House. He said he believes the assenting to the Office of Special Prosecutor Bill on…
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the savings from the procurement strategies his government employed in 2017 have become an incentive to open up the processes. According to him, the savings made over the year amounted to GH¢ 145 million from sole-sourcing and restricted tendering. Juxtaposing this to 2016 under the John Dramani Mahama government, he said 98 per cent of sole-sourcing requests were approved amounting to zilch savings. Addressing journalists in what is only his second media encounter since becoming president, Nana Akufo-Addo said 56.6 per cent of sole-sourcing requests were approved against 43.6 per cent rejection. He said…
YouTube is introducing tougher requirements for video publishers who want to make money from its platform. In addition, it has said staff will manually review all clips before they are added to a premium service that pairs big brand advertisers with popular content. The moves follow a series of advertiser boycotts and a controversial vlog that featured an apparent suicide victim. One expert said that the Google-owned service had been slow to react. “Google presents the impression of acting reactively rather than proactively,” said Mark Mulligan, from the consultancy Midia Research. “It needs to get better at acting faster.” Subscriber…

Mr. Blagogie told host of 3FM’s Sunrise Winston Amoah that “we have made some adjustments between 3% and 4%”. He said “the pricing window took effect [on Tuesday]”. Meanwhile, Mr Blagogie has revealed that fuel diversions have reduced drastically with the introduction of a tracking system. He said the introduction of the tracking system has helped the industry and as such must be encouraged…
Manchester United are close to reaching an agreement with manager Jose Mourinho over a new contract. Talks have progressed well and it is now just a matter of time before Mourinho commits to remain at Old Trafford beyond the expiry of his present deal in 2019. Mourinho’s apparent unease over transfer budget and his refusal to move out of the hotel he stays in led to speculation over his future. He took charge of United in 2016. The 55-year-old described those reports about his future as “garbage” in a pre-match press conference in early January. Since then it has become…
