Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Tsatsu Tsikata has confirmed that the weekend’s decision by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) gives Ghana more maritime territory. “Essentially in net terms, Ghana actually gains more maritime territory especially as you go further into the deep waters.” But he admitted that most of the continental shelf in which the Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme (TEN) Fields were found would have gone to La Cote d’Ivoire if their submission of the angle bisector approach to the maritime boundary had been accepted by the Tribunal. The renowned lawyer made…
The United States has expanded its controversial travel ban to include people from North Korea, Venezuela and Chad. The White House said the restrictions follow a review of information sharing by foreign governments. Donald Trump issued a presidential proclamation late on Sunday. “Making America safe is my number one priority. We will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet,” Mr Trump said. The restrictions on Venezuelans apply only to government officials and their family members. The three new countries join five others from Mr Trump’s original travel ban: Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia. But the new…
Community Resources Management Areas (CREMA) members in Kayaro and Nakong in the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region say they will resist any attempt by any person or company assigned by the Forestry Commission to fell rosewood trees in the area and are ready to seek redress at the law courts. For the past two years, illegal logging of rosewood trees in the Region has taken center stage, destroying forest reserves and driving wild life species away.…
Omanhen of Twifo Traditional Area in the Central Region Dr Nana Appiah Nuamah ll has tasked the country’s leaders to have vision and ideas to drive the canker of poverty out of the country. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been re-elected for a fourth term while nationalists have made a historic breakthrough in federal elections, exit polls suggest. Support for her conservative CDU/CSU alliance has dwindled but the bloc will remain the largest in the parliament. Its current coalition partner, the social democratic SPD, says it will go into opposition following big losses. The nationalist AfD is on track to become the third party. The performance, better than forecast in opinion polls, means the right-wing, anti-Islam party will have seats in the Bundestag for the first time. Dozens of protesters have gathered outside the…
Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken pride in the favourable outcome of the maritime border impasse between Ghana and La Cote d’Ivoire at the International Tribunal for the law of the Sea (ITLOS). He reckons that though it was difficult taking the matter to court at first given the cordial relationship between the two countries, the result makes him glad as “I received the news with great joy”. ITLOS on Saturday delivered judgement in Ghana’s favour in Hamburg, Germany after four years of litigation. “This was a difficult decision especially considering the very excellent relations established between our two…
