The Ministry of Energy has set up an eight-member investigative committee to unravel circumstances that led to the release of 5 million litres of off-spec fuel by the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST). The committee is expected to recommend, among others, whether the Managing Director of BOST, Alfred Obeng Boateng, should be interdicted. Mr Boateng has been accused of endorsing the release of the contaminated fuel via his private companies. The committee is also to determine the circumstances that created the off-spec product. The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) says it is intensifying its monitoring operations at retail outlets of petroleum products to arrest the recent phenomenon of contaminated fuel. Reports of the discharge of contaminated fuel has hit hard at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST), which has been accused of releasing 5 million litre of off-spec fuel into the system. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has left Accra for a three-day visit to Zambia. The visit is at the invitation of Zambian leader, Edgar Lungu, a statement from the presidency said on Monday. The visit comes barely a day after the president made a short dash to Nigeria. President Akufo-Addo is expected to hold bilateral talks with his Zambian counterpart, Edgar Lungu, while in the south African country. Retired army major Osahene Kwadwo Boakye Gyan says lynching should be made a treasonable offence and there should be summary trial for culprits. In what he describes as an “informal visit”, President Akufo-Addo met the Acting President of the Federal Republic, Professor Yemi Osibanjo.
