The Ministry of Energy has set up an eight-member investigative committee to unravel circumstances that led to the release of 5 million litres of off-spec fuel by the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST). The committee is expected to recommend, among others, whether the Managing Director of BOST, Alfred Obeng Boateng, should be interdicted. Mr Boateng has been accused of endorsing the release of the contaminated fuel via his private companies. The committee is also to determine the circumstances that created the off-spec product. The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) says it is intensifying its monitoring operations at retail outlets of petroleum products to arrest the recent phenomenon of contaminated fuel. Reports of the discharge of contaminated fuel has hit hard at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST), which has been accused of releasing 5 million litre of off-spec fuel into the system. NPA says it has conducted investigations into the reports but seeks to intensify its monitoring activities “to ensure that the quality of fuel sold to the consumers is not compromised”. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has left Accra for a three-day visit to Zambia. The visit is at the invitation of Zambian leader, Edgar Lungu, a statement from the presidency said on Monday. The visit comes barely a day after the president made a short dash to Nigeria. President Akufo-Addo is expected to hold bilateral talks with his Zambian counterpart, Edgar Lungu, while in the south African country. The two African leaders are expected to deepen bilateral ties as well as explore areas of cooperation to the mutual benefit of their respective countries. Retired army major Osahene Kwadwo Boakye Gyan says lynching should be made a treasonable offence and there should be summary trial for culprits. He said this can curb future cases after Major Maxwell Adam Mahama was gruesomely lynched at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday made a short return trip to Nigeria. In what he describes as an “informal visit”, President Akufo-Addo met the Acting President of the Federal Republic, Professor Yemi Osibanjo. The reason for the visit is not immediately known though it comes a couple of days ahead of the 29th African Union Summit scheduled to begin Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Three loyal viewers of TV3 were on Friday presented with their prizes for participating in the Kokrokoo Raffle, aimed at raising more funds for Kokrokoo Charities Foundation. The Foundation set up by ace radio presenter Kwame Sefa Kayi is intended to be a fund-raising platform to channel resources in support of needs identified through Kokrokoo, a morning show on Accra-based Peace FM. The Foundation is currently embarking on a project to procure 100 incubators for health facilities across the country by the end of this year.
