Leading global information and communications provider Huawei Technologies has presented five laptops and 40 pieces of 10-inch tablets to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). The items worth about GH¢100,000 is to support the AMA to implement its goal of making Accra a smart city. The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has served notice it will take “necessary steps to protect its corporate image” if some media firms do not desist from publishing “untruths” about it. According to them, the practice is “becoming rampant”. The Ministry of Roads and Highways has reopened the Buipe and Yapei bridges in the Northern Region to vehicular traffic. The two bridges were closed down to motorists last month for repair works. This resulted in congestion at the Yeji ferry station as most commuters resorted to travelling across the Volta Lake by ferries. The inadequacy of ferries led to most passengers getting stranded at the ferry station. The Trades Union Congress of Ghana (TUC) is accusing Gold Fields Ghana Limited of demonstrating bad faith in breaching the development agreement it signed with government in 2016. The TUC said despite getting the huge fiscal incentives from the March 11, 2016 agreement, Gold Fields is adducing arguments to “justify what is basically an unjustifiable action”. Minister of Trades and Industry Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has shot down claims that monies were extorted from expatriate business executives during a recently held Ghana Expatriates Business Awards (GEBA). He said most of the business executives who were seated on the Presidential High Table for the event “already have direct access to the President and do not need to pay monies to interact with him”. The Ghana Health Service has started vaccinating students and staff of Kumasi Academy Senior High School to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus. The Service has also hinted of tracing absentee students to their various homes to vaccinate them. Over 2,000 students of KUMACA have so far received their vaccination since the beginning of the exercise on Thursday. The Center for Democratic Development (CDD) is advising the three commissioners of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to take a decision in their best interest as their impeachment proceeding begins.
