Teachers supervising the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been warned to avoid aiding pupils in any form during the examination. The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Gertrude Mensah, pointed out that the rules governing all examinations must be abided by, pointing out that last year two teachers were interdicted for examination malpractice. A total of 44,749 pupils are writing the BECE in the Eastern Region. Six Arab countries including Saudi Arabia and Egypt have cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing it of destabilising the region. They say Qatar backs militant groups including so-called Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaeda, which Qatar denies. The Saudi state news agency SPA said Riyadh had closed its borders, severing land, sea and air contact with the tiny peninsula of oil-rich Qatar. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has planted 1000 seedlings of different species on a five-acre land at Kyebi in the Eastern Region. The Acting Executive Director of EPA, John Pwamang, explained that the exercise is to promote the planting of tress on reclaimed galamsey lands and create awareness for  action in the protection of the environment towards the World Environment Day . Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Catherine Afeku has nominated 2015 The X Factor runners-up Reggie ‘n’ Bollie as Ghana’s tourism ambassadors for Europe. The police administration has pledged support for the intention of the family of the late army captain, Maxwell Adam Mahama, to set up a foundation in his honour. Captain Mahama was lynched under bizarre circumstances on Monday, May 29 at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region. Sympathies have poured in for the family since the sad incidence. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured of readiness to conduct this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The Examinations for final year junior high school (JHS) students will begin on Monday, June 5 and end on Friday, June 9. A total of 468, 053 candidates are sitting this year’s examinations across 1,702 examination centers. The Upper Denkyira West District Assembly wants President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to visit the area in the midst of efforts to unravel the cause of the lynching of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama.
